Petition to Repeal the Menstrual Equity Law (General Statute § 10-212k)
We, the undersigned, call on the State of Connecticut to repeal the menstrual equity law General Statute § 10-212k. This law mandates that public schools provide free menstrual products in restrooms for students in grades 3–12, including:
This policy, funded through the state’s annual budget, cost approximately $2 million during the 2022–2023 fiscal year. The undersigned below believe this expenditure is a waste of taxpayer money and misaligned with the practical needs of students.
The requirement to place menstrual products in boys’ restrooms is impractical and confusing to young children. The undersigned believe it is inappropriate and unnecessary for young boys to encounter menstrual products in their restrooms, as it does not align with their needs and raises questions about why these items would be provided in spaces where they are not typically required. This misalignment risks both waste and misuse of resources.
We urge the immediate repeal of General Statute § 10-212k and advocate for a thorough review of school funding allocations to ensure resources are directed toward initiatives that genuinely enhance students’ education.
